Enlargement SuperHero Art

What did you accomplish? I am very happy with my Hulk that I drew and painted because I followed the grid lines and it turned out amazing.

Are you satisfied with your Super Hero enlargement? Why / Why not? I am satisfied because at first it was very challenging for me and then afterwards it turned out good.

What did you find easy when you created your SuperHero enlargement? The thing that I found easy was painting it because the Hulk only needs three colours green, purple and black.

What did you find challenging when you were weaving your SuperHero enlargement? I found ruling and following the gridlines challenging.

What do you need to work on? I needed to work on his feet and to follow the grid lines.

What would you change with your Super Hero enlargement? I would change the legs because it looks like one leg is big and the other leg is small.

What would you do next time to improve your self portrait? I would paint within the lines and to take my time with my art.

Kate Sheppard is an Unsung Hero

 What is blue, flat and made out of plastic? The ten dollar note. Guess who is on the ten dollar note? YES Kate Sheppard. She was a campaigner and won women the right to vote in New Zealand.

Kate Sheppard was born on March 10th 1848 in Liverpool England. In 1869 Kate and her siblings immigrated with her mother to Christchurch New Zealand. Her siblings were Frank, Isabella and Robert. She is famous for being the Women’s Suffrage Leader. Her parents are Andrew Wilson Malcolm and Jemima Crawford Souter.

Sheppard became famous in 1887. She was the first president of the National Council of Women. She promoted Women's Suffrage by organising petitions and public meetings by writing letters to the press, and by developing contacts with politicians. In 1893, Kate and her suffragettes gathered nearly 32,000 signatures from women. The petition was 270m long.

In 1885 she founded the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and two years later became leader of the Suffrage campaign. Sheppard won a memorial trust award in New Zealand. Kate would always donate such things as food, money and much more to the poor.

Kate got married to Walter Sheppard in 1871 - 1915.  She was married to him for forty four years. Douglas passed away on March  16th 1910 and he only lived for 29 years. After his death, she married William Sidney Lovell-Smith. She was married to William for four years. Kate Sheppard had a child named Douglas Sheppard. Douglas was born October 8th 1880. His father was Walter Sheppard.

Kate Shepard passed away on July 13th 1934 in Christchurch. She was 86 years old. If we did not have Kate Sheppard women would not be allowed to vote and now that we had her, everyone can vote now. Kate Sheppard was an unsung hero to all women. New Zealand was the first country in the world to allow women the right to vote. She started a movement in which other countries followed.

Sir Edmund Hillary's Story

Sir Edmund Hillary’s Story

Sir Edmund Hillary was the very first person to climb Mount Everest in the world.
Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world that is in Asia. Him and his
partner Sherpa Tenzing Norgay climbed to the top of Mount Everest. While they
were climbing up they had to tackle rocks and ice faces for five hours.
Sir Edmund is on the five dollar note of New Zealand. They climbed
Mount Everest on the 29th May 1953. They were at the top of Mt Everest
at 11:30 AM.

During the next fifty years Hillary set up trips on tractors across
crevasse covered glaciers and deep piles of snow. The Himalayan
Trust was established. Donations came from all around the world including
volunteer help. At the opening of the school forty students were enrolled into
the new school.

The Sherpas required an airstrip but there were no roads. The Sherpas cut down
bush, dug out roots and levelled the land. The land was very rocky which
made them have to push around boulders into big holes.

Sir Edmund Hillary had some sadness during his life.
His wife Lady Louise and his young sixteen year old daughter
Belinda died in a plane crash on March 31st 1975. Sir
Ed built twenty seven schools, two hospitals,
airstrips and bridges. During the next thirty years the Himalayan Trust continued
raise money for Nepal.

MOTAT Recount

Introduction

I could not believe my eyes when I hopped out of the bus and saw MOTAT.
I was super excited because I had been there before. The last time I went there was ages
ago and MOTAT looked very different then to what it looks like now.

Village

The first thing that we had was morning tea. We had to sit in our groups,
I was in Miss Wu’s group. In my group I had Zariah, Cleo, Melita and Mikkie .
After that we went to explore and see the village. At the village there were old cottages
and inside the cottages there was old fashioned furniture. There were also dummies that
looked a bit creepy. There was also a long drop which was like an outdoor toilet where a
dummy sat.  We also went to check out a small chapel.

Inventors Room

The next thing that me and my group went to was the Inventors Room, which I was most
excited about. In the Inventor’s Room we took a couple of steps in and as we went in, we saw
a room with a trampoline in it. The trampoline was used for an online  game. I was so excited
because we got to play the game. In the room there were bean bags on the floor that looked
really cozy and relaxing.

The object of the game was to look at the TV that was right in front of you while
you were jumping. On the TV there were holes and in the holes some monsters
popped up. You had to jump where they popped up. At the end of the game you
got to see your score. I tried to get all 3 stars. The trampoline was very bouncy
and it made no noise, it looked very new. There were also some big iPads where you
could create your own robot. There were other rooms that focused on animation  and in
one of the rooms there was a rocket launcher.

Tram Ride

After the Inventors Room it was lunch.  For lunch I sat with my friends and ate and talk.
After lunch it was the tram ride. I was so excited for it. When we went in there was a guy
named Rob and he was the driver. Before we went on the tram we were at the tram station
and we had to wait there until the tram came. When the tram arrived he came out of the tram
and introduced himself. Rob told us some rules before left. One of the rules was ladies first.
He taught us a lot about trams. I learnt that the rope on top of the tram helps the tram to
move and to go faster. Also there was a front grate that would prevent people from being run over.  

Scavenger hunt

Next we did the scavenger hunt. For the scavenger hunt we had to go to the fire station,
village and the old little school. At the fire station we had to find things like old fire trucks,
head lights, medals, weels, ladders and more. The next place we went was the old school.
In the old school we had to find a world map, books, slate boards, etc.  We also had to sing
the national anthem in there but we could not speak in Maori. Next place was the village. We
had to find a lot of things like candles, dummies, playing cards and more.

Above & Beyond

After the tram ride we came back and it was time to go to the Above and Beyond exhibition.
At Above and Beyond we went in and it was dark but cool. There were lots of games.
There was a bird game and you have act it.  There was a game where you had to pull on
this block and the rocket would go up and then when you let go it would make a big noise when
it dropped down. There were alot of other games and it was really fun.

Flight Class

After Above and Beyond we had a class with Kent that was about flight.
This was the last place we went to. We got to do a lot of  activities. One of them was
we got to make a flying machine with the materials he provided. We put our flying machine
in this wind machine. We were able to see if our flying machine went up, down or stayed in the
middle.  Another activity was the water experiment. We had to get a cup of water and a piece of
card. Then we turned it upside down and water. No water came out at all. There were a lot of other
experiments there.

Conclusion

After the fight class it was time to go and leave MOTAT. My favourite place that we went
to was the inventors room because the trampoline was so fun and it was air refreshing in there.
I was a bit disappointed because some of the old displays were gone and the pump house was
not working. But anyways I had a lot of fun.

Instructions on how to make Symmetry art

1. You fold the paper into a diagonally triangle
2. Cut it out
3. Now fold it into 8ths
4. Get a piece of cardboard paper and fold it horizontal
5. Draw a shape on one of the sides
6. Cut it out
7. Get the paper that was folded into 8ths and trace the shape on to the 8ths
8. Then you can colour it in but in the different colours and make it colourful

Ash Wednesday poster

Kaleidoscope Name Art

This is my Kaleidoscope Name Art. First we had to fold the paper into eighths and then we drew our name on one of the sides and then you trace over the others. After that we coloured in our name and then coloured in a background with a colour that would go well with it. I really enjoyed making this and I'm pleased with the end result. This artwork linked well with fractions and reflection.
